I'll never shop there and I'll mention to everyone that they're a bunch of racists if the subject comes up. Hope they go broke.Philanthropistnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11578122.post-38882569792464935922009-05-01T07:36:00.000-04:002009-05-01T07:36:00.000-04:00I think I have commented before that customers wil...I think I have commented before that customers will still be able to purchase their Lonely Planet-Israel travel book. I'm trying to be humorous. I do know that a MEC boycott would have been against the sale of Israeli made clothes and camping equipment.

Mountain Equipment Co-op is marketed as a mid to high end adventure travel store that is in tune with the environment. When people buy their products, they are encouraged to use them throughout the world such as white water canoing through the BC mountains, back-packing throughout Europe and Asia, and camping in the winter in Everest type conditions.

The clientel who purchase things from MEC (and who are also co-op owners) are generally well-off financially. They seem envirionmentally conscious but are probably apolitical on the Middle East.

MEC wouldn't have gained anything by supporting a boycott of Israeli products and would have faced a backlash by Israeli-supporting customers. It's not the kind attention that MEC would want.

Boycotting Israeli made products is something other businesses may do. They will need to assess how such a decision will affect their customers purchasing their other products and services.Skinny Dipperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12818163310102120130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11578122.post-15293977166042914712009-05-01T07:28:00.000-04:002009-05-01T07:28:00.000-04:00Thanks for the update, I appreciate it.Thanks for the update, I appreciate it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
