Another reason why I hate Amnesty International...
You'd think that arms control would be a human issue rather than a women's issue. Not if you're Amnesty International. On the front of their web page is a link to this report - Women Under Fire: The Impact of Guns on Women's Lives.
Countless women and girls have been shot and killed or injured in every region of the world. Millions more live in fear of armed violence. Two key factors lie at the heart of these abuses: the proliferation and misuse of small arms and deep-rooted discrimination against women.Oy vay! Thousands of men die each year in a variety of conflicts - wars which are actively supported by women! But, why is Amnesty just interested in violence against women....what about violence against men? Afterall, we're all human, no?
Armed violence against women is not inevitable. In many countries women have become powerful forces for peace and human rights in their communities. Their actions show how real change can be effected and women's lives made safer.
Each of us can help put an end to armed violence by joining the international campaigns to Stop Violence Against Women and to Control Arms.
