Connecticut Governor signs Civil Union Bill...
Governor Jodi Rell has signed a bill to allow civil unions for gays in Connecticut. This is the first civil union law that has been passed without being forced by the courts.
This is good news, but these couples will still not have federal recognition of their union, and thus will be denied all sorts of benefits (they won't be able to file Federal joint tax returns, for example).
I am sure there will very strong reaction from the right....even though this bill did not come from the courts - proving that they are against any sort of recognition for gay couples.
