Conservatives are giddy....
It seems that everybody has election fever - and conservatives can sense an election win. However, will some of the major issues before us be debated in an upcoming campaign??? Here are some major issues that I do not think will be discussed:
1. The science of global warming
I bet the conservatives will be very quiet on global warming. Many of them know the science is weak, but they have absolutely no appetite for debate.
2. Immigration
Isn't time we had a debate on immigration. I'm fully in favour of immigration - but we need to come to grips with some of its problems...and how to move forward in the future.
3. Divorce settlements and child custody
You won't hear a word about this at all. But, men are screwed in the current system, and reforms are desperately needed.
4. Multiculturalism and Political Correctness
I'm so tired of terms like 'visible minority' or 'person of colour'. We need to have a return to merit as the defining criteria of our age.
5. Bilingualism
An incredible failed policy that is really hurting the bureaucracy. Ask anybody who works in government and they'll tell you some incredible stories about english-speaking workers who are being discriminated against.
6. Cooperation with the Americans
While I am personally against missile defence, I do favour very strong cooperation with the Americans against terrorism. And, perhaps part of that cooperation should be to work with them on BMD.
7. Native Policy
Isn't a debate on policy towards indigenous peoples long overdue? I worry about how our country can cope with different laws for different peoples.
Ok, I have vented. Unfortunately, we're going to get in the next campaign a conservative platform that will probably be way too vague, and we will find ourselves, yet again, debating same-sex marriage.
