Will Abbas Flinch?

A Reuters report is claiming that Abbas wants to disarm militants wanted by Israel. If this is true, it is good news. But, is it really true?

Here is what the Jerusalem Post has to say:
President Mahmoud Abbas has created two committees of Palestinian officials which will have the task, within the next two weeks, of disarming 530 Palestinians wanted by Israel.

Abbas has issued a decree giving committees of officials in Gaza and the West Bank two weeks to resolve this issue, reported Israel Radio.

The wanted men will be recognized as officials in the Palestinian government, provided that they disarm.
From terrorist to official!

But, here is what the Head of the IDF says about PA attempts to stop terror:
In the meantime, the Hamas and the Islamic Jihad are "looking for excuses" to renew attacks on Israeli targets, said IDF intelligence research chief, Brig.-Gen. Yossi Kupperwasser. He said the threat of terror attacks was "increasing with time."

As for Palestinian Authority efforts to foil terror, he said the PA knows the identity of the activists and sometimes detains some of them, but later sends them home with their weapons. In addition, he said that the PA was not disrupting the ongoing armament of the groups.

Shamni attributed the current calm to a decision by the Palestinians not to carry out attacks and not to efforts by the PA to foil them. In Gaza, for instance, PA security efforts have dropped since the Sharm e-Sheikh summit, he said
