Political Correctness in the UK...
A rant about the effects of political correctness.
A criminal with highly infectious tuberculosis is released by the police because they fear catching his disease. He is hospitalised but refuses treatment. He is then released because to compel him would infringe his rights.
TB until recently ws an eradicated scourge in the UK; but no longer.
Why?
Statistics show that seven out of ten TB cases occur in immigrant minorities. But health screening of immigrants cannot be imposed (as it is in Australia and the United States and most other developed countries) because it is held it would infringe immigrants' rights.
Another achievement of the rights lobby is the compensation culture. The postman shoved a leaflet through my letterbox this week. A firm in another town, describing its people as personal injury lawyers, was encouraging me to take someone to court.
No one in particular, mind you; but they helpfully suggested a list of possibles. A negligent GP not doing his/her job? A damaged car, wrongdoer untraced? The Motor Insurers' Bureau (financed by the premiums paid by myself and fellow-motorists) could be claimed against! Or perhaps I had had a fall in the street, cracked paving stones being so prevalent?
