Woman convicted of 'lamb chop' stabbing released.

A Melbourne woman who repeatedly stabbed her elderly mother during a dispute over lamp chops has been released on parole.

The Supreme Court heard 49-year-old Julie Smith flew into a rage when her mother complained about an undercooked meal last year.

She smashed the tray of food over the woman's head then repeatedly stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

The court heard the two had serious communication problems and Smith was under stress because of the demands of caring for her mother.

Justice Bernard Teague sentenced her to four years in prison with a 132-day non-parole period, which she has already served in custody.

She was released on parole this afternoon.
