Global warming deal?

Sounds important - the headline reads: Global warming deal is signed by 157 countries.
Environment ministers from 157 countries agreed a deal to tackle global warming at the UN climate change conference in Montreal yesterday.

The governments that signed up to the Kyoto protocol agreed to extend the treaty on the reductions of emissions beyond its 2012 deadline.
This must be some new use of the word 'deal'. I mean, most countries can't even meet their current targets, so what's the use of 'extending' the treaty. Does that mean you have more time? Then, how abou this?
It also clears the way for discussions on how large developing countries, such as China and India, can be brought into the system of limiting "greenhouse gas" emissions.
Clears the way for discussions? You mean, we couldn't even discuss this before? Is this supposed to be progress?

In my view, Kyoto is useless. First, it is doubtful that global warming is man-made. But, even if CO2 causes global warming, Kyoto won't change our climate one iota. It's all a useless charade.

To me, when the Kyoto Accord was ratified by the Libs, it was another excuse in the waiting to tax.

Own a gas guzzling SUV? Pay.

Own a boat? Pay.

Snowmobile? ATV? Motocross bike? Pay pay pay.

In canada there are some 5.5 million water craft, do the math then one will understand.

Besides, if one research the volcanic eruption of Krakatoa, one will find that the earth's temp was lowered for a few years due to the amount of ash thrown in the air, but then if that happehed today, I'm sure the pro Kyoto would find some way to explain why it happened due to global warming.

I like your blog.

Absolutely. The earth's mean average (presently warmer) has fluctuated from warm to cooler and vice-versa for thousands of years. There's no conclusive body of evidence suggesting why this is so. Besides, Leonardo Di Caprio is passionate telling me on Oprah that global warming is for real. Forget empirical science and hard facts, Oprah can just 'feel' there is something is going on. Wow, she has a sixth sense! She and Gilbert Grape's brother are a fearsome duo. Seriously, Kyoto is the biggest scam since Bre-x and forcing Canada to watch the Leafs on CBC - everyone knows the Habs will win a Cup before the Leafs do.
