The problem with the conservatives...
I think John Moore hits it on the head, although I still cannot vote Liberal.
A Red Tory has nothing to fear from the Conservatives except that it's clear they're as cravenly desperate for power and as intellectually bankrupt as the Liberals. Nothing makes this clearer than the promise to lower the GST. Economists appreciate why consumption taxes are superior to income taxes. But since there are probably about 10,000 economists and 30 million consumers in Canada, the promise to knock two points off the GST is a great cheap sell. Most galling is that the measure was proposed by Harper, who is an economist.
This election is Stephen Harper's to lose and lose it he may. Red Tories, appalled by the cronyism that comes with long-term incumbency and the lavish spending that naturally arises from the prospect of banishment from power, are seeking safe harbour. Sadly, the Conservatives, unsure of their ability to attract centrists on merit, have become the political equivalent of strangers with candy.

If this is the same John Moore I have the pleasure of listening to on 1010 CFRB then I'l just laugh now.
Moore is a partisan hack, 'nuff said. Moore is as red a Liberal as they come. For me the election comes down to the need for democratic renewal - not the job of governor general.
If power corrupts how much more power do the Liberals need? They could promise to drop income tax completely and I wouldn't put my check in thier box. We need a change - Moore needs his head examined.
That's the genius of the GST cut - 3 weeks later and they are still discussing it.
Reminding people of a) the Liberals promised to get rid of it and did not and b) they are reminded that they pay GST on practically everything and that they will save some money daily!
Fred was clear that although he agrees with Moore on some of the issues, that he'd not vote Liberal.
Having an opinion that differs from the party line isn't treason.
Gosh, all you guys up in Ottawa have connections!
Happy New Year all.
I wouldn't set much stock in anything Moore says. I have listened to him on CFRB for sometime now, and engaged in various email wars with him, and the man remains a closed minded liberal loud mouth who unendingly preaches the "Stephen Harper is Scary" mantra from his bully pulpit.
I am in absolute agreement with the Harper plan to cut the GST, amongst his other strategies. Why is it that the Conservatives are "strangers with candy", and Martin is our supposed savior, as he bombasts on about "millions and millions of dollars" to be spent in yet unknown ways and at yet undisclosed times?
Moore has a spot on his show that he has dubbed "The Evil Conservative Hour", in which he pretends to offer "conservative" views to his own jeering and the delight of his liberal callers..
Enough said.
"The Evil Conservative Hour" eh?
That's one I haven't heard yet. But I really do enjoy his anti-Bush rhetoric. Or as I like to think of it "moonbatisms".
I actually took Keith campaigning in gay bars in Ottawa Centre, and Keith has advertised in the gay newspaper, Capital Xtra. He is looking forward to partipating in the all-candidates debate for the gay community on January 6th. Hope to see you there.
