And, now for something completely ridiculous...

My god..they gave him tinned halal meat, instead of fresh...
ONE of the victims of a Brisbane pedophile who was controversially awarded $2000 compensation for being refused fresh halal meat in prison has urged the Queensland Government to freeze the funds and launch an appeal.

The woman, now in her late 20s, said she was still receiving counselling to help her cope with severe trauma arising from the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of Sharif Mahommed.

"He could flush that money down the toilet and it would be better than going into his pocket," she told The Australian. "I can't think of a decent way to say what I would really like to say to the court about its decision.

"It's ridiculous that this is about his Muslim faith. As far as I'm concerned, after what he's done, he has no religious beliefs ... I have been trying for the last 19 years to put this behind me. I know there are people out there fighting for his rights. I don't think anyone has given a damn about me, to put it bluntly."

Mahommed, who was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment, has been backed by Queensland's Supreme Court, which affirmed an earlier decision by the state's Anti-Discrimination Tribunal that found he had been unfairly denied fresh halal meat.

The court heard that instead of fresh halal meat he was given tinned halal meat, as well as vegetarian meals, fish, chicken, salads and lasagne as substitute meals.

Mahommed, a Muslim who has since been released from prison, lost weight because he did not look forward to the meals. He could not enjoy the tinned halal meat, which he regarded as "fatty and salty".

Corrective Services Minister Judy Spence intends to change the law.

"This is not about religion, it is not about halal meat, it is about prisoners abusing the anti-discrimination process," Ms Spence said.

You missed the part where the problem is being fixed.
