Is this a hoax or what?
Or, here is a Conservative MP who is out of his mind...
Bigfoot, the legendary hairy man-like beast said to roam the wildernesses of North America, is not shy, merely so rare it risks extinction and should be protected as an endangered species. So says Canadian MP Mike Lake who has called for Bigfoot to be protected under Canada's species at risk act, alongside Whooping Cranes, Blue Whales, and Red Mulberry trees.
"The debate over their (Bigfoot's) existence is moot in the circumstance of their tenuous hold on merely existing," reads a petition presented by Lake to parliament in March and due to be discussed next week.
"Therefore, the petitioners request the House of Commons to establish immediate, comprehensive legislation to affect immediate protection of Bigfoot," says the petition signed by almost 500 of Lake's constituents in Edmonton, Alberta.

He is either very gullible... or very smart. Bigfoot has always been a rumor, but existance aside, protecting bigfoot would have two side-effects: Making large areas of land into a protected habitat, and attracting tourists. Bigfoot might just be an excuse to avoid the usual burocratic tangle.
Or he might really believe in the legend. No way to be sure.
Maybe this is just satire, relating to the Liberals intent to spend massive amounts of money to prevent global warming... It makes sense if you think of it this way because both bigfoot and global warming are subjects that haven't been proven to exist scientifically...
In fairness, this MP has said that he doesn't believe in bigfoot but that he felt it was his duty to present a petition that was given to him by one of his constituents.
Mr. Bigfoot was on the radio with his story (630). A Native group led him (long time bigfoot searcher) to an undisclosed area to film a bigfoot pod (?). He filmed the bigfoot, in the same area, 2 or 3 times. The footage is being shown, $5, all proceeds to wildlife group.
The 'protection' part is the only way to keep trophy hunters/tourists out of the area. It's a fun story.
The real story is back at my blog. Lake got conned by a nutcase who did a thirty minute fake bigfoot documentary.

Ah, slave-like obedience to The Rules is perfectly acceptable. Politicians have to follow the procedures - it would be terrible if they were allowed to ignore a demand of their constituents just because it was obvious nonsense, because there is no agreed definition of nonsense.
