Global warming in Norway???

They've never had less sunshine!

Never before in recorded history have there been less sunshine in Oslo in July, according to Statistics Norway. Clouds blocking the sun also brought exceptionally much rain, making this July the wettest in 67 years.

It has been unusually empty at Oslo's beaches this summer. Even by Norwegian standards, the month of July was cool, wet and cloudy.

In fact, new figures from Statistics Norway, published Tuesday, show that only once since authorities started measuring rainfall, have there been more July rains in the capital.

A total of 184,8 millimeters of rain fell on the streets of Oslo in July, compared to 197,7 millimeters in the record month of July 1940.

The summer has also been unusually clouded so far. The duration of sunshine in Oslo was as low as 115 hours in the entire month, less than half the average for the month of July, at 246 hours.

Is this intended to make any point about AGW or climate change?

Putting a question mark (or three) at the end of your title doesn't do anything to help the reader understand the point of your writing. What exactly IS the point anyway?

To anonymous - The point of Fred's post is quite clear to me. If it's not clear to you, perhaps you need a remedial reading course at summer school.

Oh, by the way, the point is to question the existence of significant global warming by showing the apparent lack of it's manifestations in Norway.

"remedial reading course at summer school."

Might I recommend a crash course in global warming for you. Did you know that global warming will affect things such as ocean currents, which will in turn cause some areas of the world to actually get cooler? Did you also know that in science you don't draw conclusions from one or two examples, but take all the data in entirety. By that I mean for every Norway, I could cite a myriad of other locations that show a warming, which weighted evenly produces a net increase. Don't chastize someone's else on education, when you exhibit COMPLETE AND UTTER IGNORANCE. What a joke.

of course these examples are meaningless...The reason I blog them is that when things get hot, you can read hundreds of articles blaming current weather on global warming. If Norway's cool summer is meaningless, then so is a hot summer elsewhere...

The only difference, for every one you can cite, I can cite hundred that suggest the opposite. Now, which one is meaningless, relatively, mathematically speaking?

Fred — Ah, the "two wrongs make a right" school of thought. How's that working out for you? ;)

At least you're honest enough to admit that these isolated examples are quite meaningless as being indicative of anything (whether that be ones used in support of AGW or that suggest it's not taking place).

Sigh! Anonymous, please try reading my first comment again. All I did was to say what the point of Fred's post was. I did not say whether or not I agreed in any way with him. I would appreciate it if you did not put words in my mouth.

Oh, on the subject matter of Fred's post, which you covered in your second comment, might I say that you actually make a very good point (minus the personal abuse directed my way). You might even fully convert me to your way of thinking (I doubt it, but it's possible) if you were to provide a link to your "hundred [examples] that suggest the opposite?"

You're kidding right? You don't get the news where you live, or just pieces that fit your denier bias? What a hoot.

The plain fact of the matter is that the global temperature hasn't risen since 1998. So, there are just as many example of cold areas as there are of hot areas. Think of the many deaths in India the last few years because of the cold, the record cold in Siberia, the snow this July in Argentina, record cold this summer in Peru, etc.

Just for the fun of it, I wanted to share with youwhat I heard on CBC radio yesterday. The host of some show read a letter from a bloke in Dublin Ireland. The bloke complained about how much rain they had been getting and how unusual it was for July in Ireland. In other words, Norway is not the only Country that was affected. I know that Northern Ontario also had a lot of rain in July. It was not a record for my area, but we did get to 7th place for the amount of rainfall for the month.

anonymous - Your're the one who mentioned that you could cite a hundred examples. Now, the mature thing to do would be to do so or to back down. Doing neither does absolutely nothing for your credibility, nor does your ignoring my request not to put words in my mouth. Oh, and if you want to apologize for that, I'll gladly accept it. And if you want me to apologize for the "remedial reading" crack in my first comment, I'll be glad to. In fact, I'll apologize for it whether or not you want me to.

I apologize.
