Women banned from riding motorcycles....
The latest in sharia law...
The women of the Northern state of Kano Nigeria get around by sitting on the back of a motorcycle taxi as a passenger.
Taking a motorcycle taxi is cost effective and practical. Yet the new law leaves women with far fewer choices for getting to work or school or going shopping as it is now forbidden and illegal. The only alternative is by mini-bus but the segregated women's section/seating fills up quickly meaning, a wait until the next bus.
Since the law has been implemented earlier this week, already two motorcycle riders have been lashed in punishment for carrying female passengers. The women in this particular situation were not punished because they were married but single women will be thrashed in public the same as the men.
Near 300 people gathered to observe the public punishment.
The new law under the latest element of Sharia/Islamic states women are not permitted to come into bodily contact with men—as a passenger on a motorbike, bodies can’t help but make contact.
