Ahmadinejad misquoted????

Maybe so..but it's still ridiculous...and wrong...
Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's press secretary Wednesday blamed an interpreter for misquoting Ahmadinejad as saying there are no gays in Iran.

Ahmadinejad drew laughter and jeers with the remark last month when he told students at Columbia University. (story)

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like you do in your country. We do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who's told you that we have it," the translator quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

But on Wednesday, presidential aide Mohammad Kalhor tells the Reuters news agency that what Ahmadinejad actually said was "that, compared to American society, we don’t have many homosexuals."

Kalhor told Reuters that because of historical, religious and cultural differences homosexuality was less common in Iran and the Islamic world than in the West.
