Comments by a Belgian regional minister who compared the killing of babies in a nursery last week with the recent Israeli offensive in Gaza have been sharply criticized by Israel’s embassy, Jewish groups and other politicians.

Bert Anciaux, Minister of Sport and Culture in the Flemish regional government, wrote on his blog that the killing of two babies in Dendermonde in a knife attack by a 20-year-old unemployed man – which shocked Belgium- reminded him of children in the Gaza Strip, "also consciously killed by an aggressor."
