Terrorist to be released in the Netherlands...

Mathematics is amazing...you can go from 25 years in prison....down to being released....
Wesam al Delaema will likely be freed shortly. Although the Dutchman of Iraqi origin has made a deal with the US authorities for a jail sentence of 25 years for terrorism, he will be released soon after arrival in the Netherlands, his lawyer predicts.

In exchange for a reduction in his sentence (25 years instead of life plus a fine of 250,000 dollars), Al Delaema has confessed to laying roadside bombs (IEDs) in Iraq in 2003. This sentence will according to Koppe be commuted to a maximum of 7 years in the Netherlands. Because prisoners are released after serving two-thirds of their sentence, this will effectively be less than 5 years. And because Al Delaema has already been in jail since May 2005, he will be released within a few weeks of his arrival in the Netherlands, according to Koppe.

Koppe expects his client to arrive in the Netherlands in three to six months' time. The transfer to the Netherlands was already agreed with the Americans at the time of his extradition to the US in January 2007. The Iraq-born Dutchman is the first alleged insurgent from the war in Iraq to have been tried in court in the US.

Al Delaema pleaded guilty before a a Washington federal court on Thursday to charges of terrorism. The admission of guilt does not according to Koppe mean that Al Dalaema admits that he voluntarily cooperated with terrorists.

Ridiculous. If there is no penalty for terrorizing people, terror and killing will not stop. He should have been executed swiftly, that is the only effective punishment.
