And, now a veil in a Canadian courtroom...

This is outrageous...
A Toronto-area Muslim woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by two men has won a round in her battle to testify in court while wearing a niqab, a veil that covers all of the face except the eyes.

In a keenly anticipated ruling addressing what appears to be the first case of its kind in Canada, Mr. Justice Frank Marrocco of Ontario Superior Court has overturned a decision by provincial court Judge Norris Weisman.

Presiding over a preliminary inquiry for the two defendants, Judge Weisman last year concurred with their position that the woman should be required to testify with her face in full view, and he instructed her to remove her veil.

However, Judge Marrocco's ruling does not necessarily clear the way for the woman, a Canadian-born mother in her early 30s, to testify from behind her veil. Instead, he ordered that the preliminary inquiry, on hold since the issue surfaced, hold two hearings, one to be videotaped to determine whether the woman's testimony would be admissible as court evidence under those circumstances.

He also granted intervenor status to the Ontario Human Rights Commission, which backs the contention of the woman and her lawyer David Butt that she should be allowed to give evidence while veiled because the garment stems from a sincere, deeply felt religious conviction that lies at the core of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

What a surprise, the HRC feels a defendant should no longer have the right to face his/her accuser.

Once again, the soft headed socialism of our upper echelon of judiciary strikes again.

If i am being charged with a serious crime, I want the right to face my accuser.Hidden faces smack of star chambers and unaccountability.

So does this mean that Everyone can now wear a mask or disguise in the Courtroom to make it fair for all people.

How odd that in Ontario a Judge has ruled that a "Faith" based view of life for God is actually valid and yet in the Schools we see that other Judges have ruled that "Faith" should not be given status in the classroom.

Faith is exactly that...FAITH,this female believes that Allah is the Real God for all people in canada and that a Misogynistic Pedophile that started the Faith is the Perfect-Example of a man for all Muslims to emulate.

Only in canada could the Courts take both sides of a debate about God.

Wow, when Christians wish to adhere to their faith in the public relm the legal community screams like hell. But when a Muslim *WOMAN* feels hard done by the fucking courts bend over backwards.

Of course we will hear not a peep of criticism from any lawyers because, as we all know judges are infallable unlike the rest of us mere mortals
