Good for Taiwan...

I am a big supporter of independence for Taiwan...
Taiwan on Thursday reacted to a call by Chinese President Hu Jintao to move towards reunification by stating that the island is an "independent sovereign state".

"The Republic of China is an independent sovereign state, and it is a reality that the two sides do not belong to each other," the Mainland Affairs Council said in a statement, referring to Taiwan by its official name.

Agreed strongly, I love the idea of an independent Taiwan. Just the other day I was comparing an object made in Taiwan to something made in China... you know what was better don't you? (real conservative)

Taiwan belongs to China. PRC and ROC can co-exist under one system just like how Hong Kong and Macau have impressively flourished in the system (more than under control of the European imperialists).

However, I do happen to like Ma Ying-jeou because he has established unprecedented close ties with mainland China. He realizes that in order for Taiwan to succeed it must use the strong Chinese economy to its advantage, not push it away. It's a symbiotic relationship in which China can also learn from Taiwan and develop its products. Don't be short-sighted, in a decade or two, China will be producing top-notch items.

Btw, to the "real conservative" above... you seem to be quite obsessed with bashing the Chinese people. Is that just fear of China's growing prowess or your own inferiority complex? Perhaps both?

Because I am a Conservative, yet I hold a balanced and commonsense view on foreign policy. Working with China is going to get things done, pushing China away simply isn't.

To the commentator above, I believe you to be a communist Chinese sympathizer and apologist, the type that jumps to the defense of China whenever its policies are called into question.

You are a conservative, and believe Taiwan 'belongs' to China?

Which arm of the Chinese govt pays you to post these comments?
