The Conservative Party today condemned one of its own MPs for comparing the treatment of politicians over their expense claims to the suffering of the Jews under the Nazis.

David Wilshire, 66, who paid more than £100,000 in taxpayers' money to his own company, claimed the 'witchhunt' over expenses would 'undermine democracy'.

The disgraced MP, who will resign at the next election, added: 'Branding a whole group of people as undesirables led to Hitler's gas chambers.'
