Chavez brings the house down....

This is so ridiculous....this article is from Australia...
THE Copenhagen climate summit was pretty much summed up in the high-level segment yesterday when Penny Wong’s speech was interrupted by whistles and chanting and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez got a standing ovation.

The Australian climate change minister may not be the world’s greatest orator but she had some sensible things to say when she stood up on behalf of the so-called “umbrella group” of developed countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, Norway, Iceland and Ukraine.

She said, for example, that all major economies, and all major emitters needed to make binding emission reduction commitments if a Copenhagen deal was going to help the climate.

And she said that it was time to “seal a deal”, which after nine days of negotiation that have achieved very little and a “text” that remains a sea of brackets – indicating the yet-to-be-agreed bits – that seems self evidently true.

It wasn’t a particularly strong, rousing or detailed statement – the only real commitment was that the umbrella group emission reductions would be “substantial”.

But before she rose to speak the conference proceedings were interrupted by people with whistles and sirens chanting “stop green capitalism” – a sign of the anger in the developing world that the Danish host government is trying to wrest the process from the professional negotiators, who have failed to make any progress, and hand it to politicians, who might have some chance of achieving something before we all leave on

Speaker after speaker from the developing world railed against this idea, with the Sudanese vice president Nafie Ali Nafie speaking on behalf of the developing world and declaring that they stood ready to agree to a new commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol. That would be the agreement where developing countries aren’t obliged to do anything. The other proposed agreement that would require big developing country emitters to bind themselves to their own type of emission reductions they are a lot less keen on.

Then President Chavez brought the house down.

When he said the process in Copenhagen was “not democratic, it is not inclusive, but isn’t that the reality of our world, the world is really and imperial dictatorship…down with imperial dictatorships” he got a rousing round of applause.

When he said there was a “silent and terrible ghost in the room” and that ghost was called capitalism, the applause was deafening.

But then he wound up to his grand conclusion – 20 minutes after his 5 minute speaking time was supposed to have ended and after quoting everyone from Karl Marx to Jesus Christ - “our revolution seeks to help all people…socialism, the other ghost that is probably wandering around this room, that’s the way to save the planet, capitalism is the road to hell....let’s fight against capitalism and make it obey us.” He won a standing ovation.

Damn right. If we had more Hugo Chavez's the world would be a better, and fairer, place.

Chavez have you stopped beating your protesters?

Didn't think so....

Idiots in Hopenchangen say they believe the planet is in peril, and their solution is international socialism? That cure is much worse than the non-existent disease.

Does no one remember the environmental nightmares discovered behind the Iron curtain after the wall came down? That's what happens to the environment under socialist rule.

No Chavez cant stop beating protesters - why? because he hasn't started beating them.
It is the Royal police of Denmark who are beating the protesters.

My Nemesis prefers the Capitalist policies of the West during the Socialist Chavez years with people like Bush and Blair running the show?
Remind us again which one has left over a million dead in the Middle East, tortures prisoners, stoked worldwide terrorism to a new height and had tens of millions around the World protesting in the streets against them, and which one hasn't.

Clue: Not the tubby Venezuelan one.

Not much of a nemisis it seems. Goes quiet at the first comment. I've had breakfast cereals that put up more of a fight.

Bush and Blair or Chavez?

I wonder...

A maniacal dictator who shuts down all broadcast and print media for criticizing him, changes the law to enable him to govern indefinitely, incites anti-Jewish attacks, calls oppressive dictators like Castro, Mahmadinijad and the Ruskies his friends, all in the name of socialism.

Or a free West.

Yes Lucy, socialism is great. North Korea defines itself as a Socialist Paradise.

Don't get ahead of yourself, your Nemesis has not rolled over and died (the socialist way!)

My nemisis had better start to come back with some stronger arguments than that. Shutting down a TV station or starting wars that kill millions. Hmmm. Tough one. Remind me how many people died in that particular Chavez move again.

But, Lucy Afghanistan was liberated from the Taliban, and Iraq was liberated from Saddam Hussein....surely that is all good news...

Lucy, do you not believe a free press is the cornerstone of a free society?

Soviet Russia incarcerated millions in psychiatric wards and prisons for dissenting against the state.

By your logic, Soviet Russia is a paradise because they didn't kill as many people in a war against terrorism as the West.

That's false logic.
