Canada to send 1,000 more troops to Haiti....
Our government is responding strongly to the crisis....
Canada is dispatching another 1,000 troops to assist in the "historic" humanitarian relief operation underway in Haiti.
Defence Minister Peter MacKay said the CF personnel will be deployed from CFB Valcartier in Quebec, supplementing those already on the ground and joining some 500 on board the HMCS Halifax and HMCS Athabaskan sailing to port right now.
MacKay said CF soldiers, engineers, medical personnel will aid in security protection and humanitarian efforts in the "multi-faceted relief operation.
"Clearly there are ample tasks for all of those soldiers upon arrival," he said, adding Canada has a "moral imperative" to help the crisis.

I doubt if 1,000 troops is enough. People in Haiti are more and more desperate and 1,000 troops to all those who have survived and need help is nothing. I hope that especially the question of security will be solved as soon as possible.

Julie
