Are cows good for the environment????

I don't really care...but this debate says something about the stupidity of the discourse on global warming...
In the past environmentalists, from Lord Stern to Sir Paul McCartney, have urged people to stop eating meat because the methane produced by cattle causes global warming.

However a new study found that cattle grazed on the grasslands of China actually reduce another greenhouse gas, nitrous oxide.

Authors of the paper, published in Nature, say the research does not mean that producing livestock to eat is good for the environment in all countries. However in certain circumstances, it can be better for global warming to let animals graze on grassland.

The research will reignite the argument over whether to eat red meat after other studies suggested that grass fed cattle in the UK and US can also be good for the environment as long as the animals are free range.

Cows are not good but they do taste good. We should focus more on the real issues though, such as coal and motorised transport!

This discourse on the damage cows do the environment is a non-sequitur. There was once tens of millions of bison roaming North America. We have replaced them with tens of millions of cows. Did the bison not expel digestive gases? What's the difference between a cow fart and a buffalo fart?

I have no objection to getting rid of all the beef cattle so long as we replace them with bison. Buffalo meat tastes even better than cattle meat.

Powell, you have a good point. Let's take this "cows R bad" to it's logical conclusion: The more species we can drive closer to extinction, the less CO2 they'll emit. I don't even want to think about elephant farts and how much that's damaged our world, how much that's threatened our species -- Extinction is our Salvation!

At least, that's what we should tell the idiots who try to impose their values on the rest of us.
