Dire Straits' song 'Money for Nothing' banned from Canadian radio...
Just a matter of time before they start taking Mark Twain out from libraries...
The 1980s song "Money for Nothing" by the British rock band Dire Straits has been deemed unacceptable for play on Canadian radio.Gee, do you think Dire Straits will go back into the studio???
In a ruling released Wednesday, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council says the song contravenes the human rights clauses of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Code of Ethics and Equitable Portrayal Code.
A listener to radio station CHOZ-FM in St. John's, N.L., complained last year that the song includes the word "faggot" in its lyrics and is discriminatory to gays.
The broadcaster argued that the song had been played countless times since its release decades ago and has won music industry awards.
A CBSC panel concluded that the word "faggot," even if once acceptable, has evolved to become unacceptable in most circumstances.
The panel noted that "Money for Nothing" would be acceptable for broadcast if suitably edited.

Pretty pathetic, eh?
Only in Canada.
*sigh*
Totally pathetic. It's not as if the song had just been recorded, for Pete's sake - this is another case of Politically correct gone overboard.
What's next? Re-write history? Let's change everything so that it looks like no nasty things every happened - let's whitewash everything. Utter BS.
These CBSC idiots should be removed from office. they are not only out of line with this stupid decision, but they are making Canada look like a bunch of hicks.
this is a "trending topic" on Twitter for heaven's sake.
Excerpt from The Lyrics of The Song “They Don’t Care About Us” by Michael Jackson:
Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
You can never kill me
Jew me, sue me
Everybody do me
Kick me, kike me
Don’t you black or white me
All I wanna say is that
They don’t really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don’t really care about us
(Several of Michael Jackson’s family members converted to Islam, and Michael Jackson, at one time, fled the United States to live in The United Arab Emirates.)
What was the response by the societies of, and by the media institutions of, and by the governmental institutions of, the United States and other Western countries to those lyrics? Was there outrage? Was there denouncement? Was there discussion? Was there acknowledgment? No. Of course not.
Approximately 70 years ago, the Western world, in some cases directly, and in other cases indirectly, murdered almost all of the Jewish people in Europe.
Now, 70 years later, the Western world, including the members of Gay groups, is colluding with a genocidally anti-Jewish, genocidally anti-Gay, totalitarian supremacist religious political movement to commit genocide against the Jewish people in Israel.
And members of the government of a Western country, to show how beneficent and tolerant they are, ban a rock song that uses a hurtful offensive anti-Gay word.
The Western world is rotten with, and self-destructively insane with, Jew-hatred.
What's next? England following suit by pulling every pack of "Faggots" off the shelves of supermarkets because of the changed use of the word? That's right.. Faggotts are meatballs!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faggot_%28food%29
It was FIRST!! Just like GAY was once known to be happy. I know dam well most people will see this as a pathetic move, as the world is becoming crazier than ever with rubbish like this. (PC) Who listens to the radio anyways?! LOL.. Controversy sells! Good for Dire Straights.
Great comments! Daniel- that bit about how no one had any probs with the M. Jackson lyrics - right on. Of course, there would have been another reason too (I'm such a cynic) MJ was BLACK - so no one would dare to say anything for fear of the black card getting pulled. I am willing to bet that if Mark Knoffler was black, or a one armed Somalian single mother, nothing would have been said either.
Our stupid society is filled with double standards and BS.
Wow, Anonymous - seriously the Brits pulled meat balls? that is too freakin' stupid. This PC crap is getting beyond stupid actually.

Harper became PM and nothing has changed. Is he choosing to do nothing or ineffective?
Are you kidding? Harper became PM and now there are alot of under the table laws that restrict freedom. If a big buisness wants to put something on farmland, your municipality can't oppose it in ontario. You're not allowed to protest.
Weezy,
Thank you for the appreciation.
You're absolutely right about the double standards and BS (the holding of bigoted prejudiced wrong views) in our society.
I just wrote a letter of complaint to the @@$$%%&**s at the CBCS, I copoied a variety of news outlets along with copies to various music industry friends.
I copied it in below. And here is the head jerks' email in case you lot feel like sending a little complaint yourselves.
Every little bit helps. We have to defend our freedoms.

Sir
In light of the highly ridiculous decision your group made regarding "Money for Nothing" based upon ONE (1) complaint, I wrote to you several days ago - as of this date and time, you have not had the courtesy to respond.
The decision is based upon false conclusions reached by your organization, and is not supported by many gay groups. The single complainant does not speak for the entire gay community.
I submit that had this same song been written/recorded by a Black artist or an artist from another minority group, such as a gay person or a Native Canadian or American, your group would have rejected the complaint for fear of being labelled descriminatory.
In my opinion, your organization has stepped well outside of the bounds of intelligent and fair decision making, into the realm of knee jerk reaction and over-zealous political correctness.
I find it both distasteful and alarming that a small group of people in your position should be able to act in such an arbitrary manner and with so little good reason.
There are many songs on the airwaves right now with lyrics that are overtly offensive to many different groups, but they still remain on the air ..........Based on your recent decision, if any one person should decide to take offence to any song, including the National Anthem, you might choose to ban it.
I believe Canada is still operating as a democracy, your decisions should reflect that.
This decision should be changed because it is wrong and is based upon complete ignorance of the intent of the song writer.

I just posted Anonymous' words to my music group at Linked in, I thought the words hilarious.
the more I think about this, the more annoyed I get.
I have drafted a letter to the Fed. leaders - all of them - complaining about this - I don't expect much, but the squeaky wheal often gets the grease and I always copy the press when I'm writing this type of letter. As soon as these jerk-offs see you've copied the press, they become antsy.
Hey everybody, good news - I heard yesterday while listening to Q107, that the CRTC has formally told the CBSC to get a new bunch of people to look at the decision and to examine the word in question "in context".
Now this may have no effect, they might still come to a decision to ban the song, but it is interesting that the CRTC said it had received a ton of letters complaining about this decision and asking it to look into it.
Three cheers for the Power of the People!
