The real threat to our democracy...

My latest article for Postmedia...
And, when one person was kept out of Harper rally, the media went on a feeding frenzy. I’m not saying it was right to keep that one person out of the rally, but I’m pretty sure that our democracy was not threatened.

The same is true of the various scandals surrounding the Conservatives: Afghan detainees, Kairos funding, Rights & Democracy, Bev Oda, in-and-out funding, ethnic fundraising, Helena Guergis, Rahim Jaffer, Bruce Carson, proroguing parliament, and right up to contempt of parliament.

Time and time again, we’ve been warned that the scandal-ridden Conservatives are a threat to our democracy.

Have we lost all perspective in Canada? We spend months and months debating the treatment of Afghan detainees, but precious little time on the Afghan people. We spend weeks on the process of defunding an NGO like Kairos, but no time on why it was defunded. We turn the tragic death of former Rights and Democracy president Remy Beauregard into obscene attacks on some very fine people. We go ballistic when Harper doesn’t fire a cabinet minister and we go ballistic when he does. And we turn honest errors into wilful betrayal.
Please read the whole thing...and leave a comment!

You forgot Wafergate, the Cadman Affair, big cheques, government signage, Third World abortion, the Olympic logo, Stephen Harper's Government,.....well, it's easy to see how you missed them. There have been so many over the last five years.
Given the opposition parties supposed mandate to oppose the government and given that they chose to do so with such extreme rhetoric and almost palpable hatred we don't have a hope in hell of getting things done under future minority parliaments.

The one thing about the left and left-leaning individuals that concerns me more than all their exaggerated claims and made-up scandals is how they talk about PM Harper, the Conservative government, and right-leaning Canadians as being hateful and hate-filled. What I have seen over the past 4-5 years is exactly the opposite .... the Liberals and even the NDP in some cases are so extreme with their discussing venom that I can hardly believe it. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some on the right say some disgusting things .... but nothing compared to the opposition.

Thank you ...... Dave

PM Harper never stole any money from the taxpayers like the Liberals.Real smart Canadians see the faux manufactured scandals for what they are and where they came from...those that don't watch CBC/CTV know bullsh$t when its thrown at PM Harper 24/7.Hope PM Harper gets his deserved majority so this country can continue moving forward. Sick of the coalition kiddy games.

If by any chance T. Jack became PM, and the Dippers had ministers in charge of say some of Foreign Affairs, Defence and Public Safety, can you imagine the reductions in, and cut off of in some cases of, defence–and esp. intelligence–exchanges by our closest allies? Not to mention the security problems for Canadian organizations.

These considerations would also obtain if the NDP occupied some such offices under a coalition with a Liberal PM.

Mini-Marx really is a threat to our democracy. If that little rooster were given the reins of power for 4 months he'd set Canada back 10 years. The guy is an antique ideologue!!!
