Synagogue burnes in Russia; Graves desecrated in France...
The latest in anti-semitic attacks.
Vandals toppled or smashed dozens of tombstones at a Jewish cemetery in eastern France, city officials said Wednesday.
About 64 of 500 tombstones at the cemetery in the eastern Moselle region were damaged, apparently overnight Monday, officials said. The vandalism was discovered Tuesday.
The incident marked the first time the cemetery in the town of Sarreguemines has been vandalized, though the region has been hit by more serious attacks at other cemeteries.
Police were investigating, and said there were no immediate indications about who might be responsible.
France has suffered a string of anti-Semitic attacks in recent years, often targeting Jewish cemeteries, community centers and synagogues.
On Tuesday, a fire burned down a synagogue in a Moscow suburb in an incident that Jewish leaders blamed on anti-Semitism.
The synagogue in the town of Malakhovka, 12 miles southeast of Moscow caught fire at about 6 a.m., and the flames quickly engulfed the entire one-story building. Firefighters were unable to prevent damage to the building's interior and roof.
