The self-esteem police are at it again...
This is from a story in the National Post today. A grade-six student in Toronto wants to repeat grade 6 because his reading and math skills are below par.
But the Toronto boy's plan, supported by his parents, has been rejected by his principal and the school board. Holding children back, also called grade retention, rarely happens anymore, at the urging of school psychologists who warn the practice is detrimental to children's self-esteem.I don't make this stuff up, folks.
