Some very shaky assumptions...

We blogged yesterday about the proposal for a black-only school in Toronto. Fortunately, that has been turned down, but look at this Toronto Star editorial.
Every student attending classes in Toronto schools deserves fair and equal treatment in an open and unbiased education system. Sadly, society still falls well short of that ideal. Too often students, including black students, find themselves confronting high hurdles ranging from the education system's lingering and systemic racism to the challenges posed by poverty, recent immigration, language barriers or a disrupted family life.
What 'lingering and systempic racism'???? Didn't Jews in the early part of the 20th century face poverty, language barriers, and recent immigration??? They still did well. Perhaps the problems facing blacks is cultural - and the that the solutions lies within themselves.
