Syrians named in Hariri probe...

The Daily Star of Lebanon names names.
Chief UN investigator Detlev Mehlis' report, which was presented to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Thursday, "will include names of top level Syrian officers, as well as tens of Lebanese suspects who have direct links to the assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri," according to UN sources. The sources told The Daily Star that these named include four top Syrian officers: Assef Shawkat, Syrian President Bashar Assad's brother-in-law and head of Syrian intelligence; Bahjat Suleiman, a high ranking Syrian intelligence officer; Ghazi Kenaan, the former Syrian Interior Minister and commander of Syria's intelligence apparatus in Lebanon between 1982 and 2002 who committed suicide last week; and Rustom Ghazaleh, the chief of Syrian intelligence in Lebanon from 2002 until the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon this April.

The sources added that the report details the direct threat made by Assad and Ghazaleh to Hariri and includes recommendations for the arrest of tens of people in Lebanon and Syria.

Lebanese security sources said that several arrests were made late Thursday night, including Lebanese security officers, former politicians, officials and citizens.
