The Guardian's weird view of Canada...
This personal view of the US and Canada is not suprising - the Guardian hates the US.
Some 32 million people occupy a territory which is larger than Russia and is blessed with enormous natural resources. Canada is democratic to its marrow, relatively enlightened on environment, health and welfare issues and its political discourse, unlike America's, is recognisably connected to the rest of the free world. That is almost certainly because the centre ground of politics, the place where you find a nation's core values and you can most easily read its character, is some distance to the left of the centre ground in the US.Excuse me? Canada is not bigger than Russia. We aren't democratic to the bone - the Prime Minister appoints all the Senators, all the Supreme Court Justices, all the heads of the Crown Corporations, the Governor-General; Our health care system is in lousy shape and Canadians know it; and are really enlightened abou the environment??? Nice to think so, but on almost every indicator, the US had tougher environmental laws.

The Canadian culture of narcissism.
It's all about making ourselves feel good.
As a democracy, Canada rates way below the United States.
I think Canada has a great health care system. I hope US can soon compare to them.
