Who will lead federalist forces in Quebec???
It seems likely that Quebec will have yet another referendum in the next few years - given the current unpopularity of Jean Charest's Liberals. The big question to be answered is who will lead the federalist forces in Quebec? Clearly, not Paul Martin. And, clearly not Stephen Harper should he manage to become Prime Minister in a minority government.
Two names are possible, in my mind. First, I think that Michaelle Jean may end playing a huge role on the federalist side. It's likely she'll still be Governor-General during the next referendum, and she has that potential to dazzle people. Yes, I was very skeptical about her appointment. But, now that it is a done deal, she may not be in a position to refuse to enter the fight on the federalist side.
The other candidate is Marc Garneau. I don't know that much about him, but I am hearing good things. I hope he wins election to Parliament in this election - he brings a lot of integrity with him.
Who do you think should lead the federalist forces?

Great post, Fred. I would say that Jean's role as champion of federalism in Quebec would depend entirely on whether or not the average Quebecois sees her as "pure laine" or "une autre".
What about someone from the athletic world, like Patrick Roy, Guy Lafleur, Jean Beliveau or Martin Brodeur?
Jean Beliveau would be an inspired choice - certainly he could be part of a team that would include Garneau.
