A Total Disgrace...

Andrea Yates has been found not guilty by reason of insanity for killing her 5 children. This is a complete disgrace! She should be spending the rest of her life in prison - I just don't buy insanity as a reasonable defense for murder.

I hope the prosecution goes ahead and tries her again - they only tried her for 3 of the 5 murders...so they can prosecute the other two.

I sincerely hope they do try her for the other 2 children. This woman is sick and unstable, and her crime cannot be forgiven

So if she wasn't insane, what reason can you think of for a woman to kill her 5 children?

Were you also one of those people who could tell Terri Schiavo was fighting to live and wanted to say something just by watching a 30 second clip?

Give your head a shake. Andrea Yates was not well mentally, and the fact that she has to live with the knowledge that she killed her children is more punishment than any court could ever hand out.

Well, I guess now we've all got an out if we're unhappy with our marriage and kids.

The woman was depressed and unhappy. Mentally troubled. But nonetheless, she held each one of her five innocent children underwater until the life was gone from them and water filled their lungs. She deserves nothing better than to be locked away for the rest of her life.

Wow,

So you're saying that she was unhappy in her marriage so she drowned FIVE kids? It must be nice to be able to see things in such simple terms. Funny how your expertise goes so far beyond the psychiatrists who have examined her. And you've never even met her. Man, the justice system should work the way you do: read a couple of articles on line, and draw a conclusion. that would certainly speed things up.

As for your contention that she deserves to be locked away? I'm quite certain that she would agree.

Personally, I feel sorry for her.

wonder woman:

For once? What the fuck are you talking about, for once? you don't know me or anything about me.

As for the children, well of course I feel sorry for them. Are you so dense that unless I type it in 48 point font with animated gifs, you won't be able to draw that conclusion?

FYI: I feel sorry for those children, but their suffering has ended and they are now at peace. I feel sorry for Andrea Yates because she has to face what she did for the rest of her life.

This is like those insane Hate-Crimes , how many people like the persons they're about to assault or murder.

Another 2-tier justice system that favours the mentally challenged, we can't lock them up until they have actually murdered
someone to prove they're insane, ergo the not-guilty ruling and then confinement in a Institution
to be released someday.

She will be kept in a mental health institution for a long, long time. She will not be released for years, if ever, so there is no need to worry.

I feel sorry for the kids above all else. This was a tragedy. But it was a needless tragedy. This woman had a long and extensive history of mental illness. I mean, what happens when a woman tries to kill herself twice, is submitted to a psych ward for a few months where she was in a near catatonic state and upon release is told it would be better for her not to have any more kids... only to have another child?

In any rational sense of the term, these would be called "warning signs".

Normally, I can't stand the idea of insanity as a plea. And the overwhelming majority of the time insanity is used in a plea, it never works. But seriously, if there is not a more clear cut case of a mentally ill person doing something that is totally beyond rationality, it is this. If she is guilty of their murder, than so is her husband for not recognizing the danger the children were in and ensuring that they were safe from their disturbed mother.

I think she should go away for a long time, but not to a prison. This woman is seriously, mentally unstable and it will take many years (if ever) for her to become a calm and sensible person. Just ask the experts who have actually examined her.

This whole thing is a tragedy. But there is no need for vengeance against somebody who obviously did not possess the right mind to make rational decisions. If Andrea Yates isn't insane, than nobody can be.
