Dangerous thinking from the Liberals...
Is this Scary Week for the Liberals? First, the nonsense about Hezbollah and now this....
Liberal leadership hopeful Gerard Kennedy is proposing an ambitious plan to erase the wage gap between men and women.None of this will work....there is really not much of a wage gap when you factor in experience, hours of work, part vs. full time work, etc.
The plan includes dramatically boosting day care spaces, eliminating inequities in the tax system and collaborating with business and labour to make the work force more equitable and hospitable for women.
Kennedy said his plan would not only give working women the income boost they deserve, it would lure up to 1.6 million more women into the work force.

Like Thomas Sowell points out, if women made only 66 cents for every dollar a man made in the same job, wouldn't employers hire only women since the labour would cost 1/3 less?
More Liberal B.S. There is no way he could create the number of daycares he suggests without bankrupting the treasury. Forcing wages up would cause layoffs etc. Another pipe dream by the silly Liberals.
The problem with this feminist utopia that the Liberals try and create, is that it actually affects women in a completely negative way. I can write a book on the number of times within my company that the best candidate for a particular job has been passed over because it has been a woman of "breeding age". Not PC I know...but a fact of life. I helped a colleague of mine from NZ interview candidates for a new business he was setting up in Canada. Once he heard about our maternity laws, he made a very quick decision....none of the key people we hired were women. We are talking 80K jobs here and I could argue that the best candidates for two of those positions were woman. He said he could not hang the success of his business on the potential for one of his employees to leave him for a full year. (Granted men CAN take time as well for maternity, but it rarely happens.) How many more victims will the Liberals create if they mandate more pandering to the feminists.

...Criticize one of the most popular politicians to ever come from Ontario (Kennedy), and I guess you can come up with some dandy critiques.
Here in Vancouver, Kennedy's plans are going over very, very well!
And, if things are so bad for the Grits, why the hell are they only six points behind the government? The Liberals are leaderless and wandering all over the place, but yet the governing Conservatives can't get out of their 35-37% support range?
Take it from me, by this time next year, the Liberals will be back in charge.
I think Kennedy makes a lot of sense and should be congratulated for making these commitments. It is increadibly hard to find quality affordable child care and that fact alone is responsible for keeping tens of thousands of women out of the workforce. I for one hope he gets the chance to make good on these ideas.
Kennedy is hero, and Ontario misses him dearly, as he would have made an excellent replacement for the popular Premier McGuinty when he decides to resign; he'll be an excellent Prime Minister, and he makes me proud to be a true Red Liberal

I'd put his recognition rating at less than 15% if you asked the man on the street.
Can you bottle that Kool-Aid, Sean P? If so, you may have a long and profitable career ahead of you in the beverage industry because I know a few people who would like a taste of your alternate universe.
Kennedy is popular with left-of-center- voters. Definately not with right of center and we'll see on centrists.
My bet, Kennedy will drive centrist voters away from the Liberals.
As for this thinking, it smacks of ignorant feel-good politics. Dramatically boosting day care spaces predominantly helps upper-middle to upper class citizens since working class citizens CAN'T AFFORD CHILD CARE IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Collaborating with business and labour sounds about as appealing as negotiating a solution to the middle east problem (without killing one side). It sounds good, but it won't happen.
And I agree with Fred, the 'wage gap' is overrated. That is why many feminists are pushing for 'equal pay for work of equal value' rather than simply 'pay equity'.
Kennedy is full of goofy ideas and has been since he ran his free store in Toronto - but he did get a lot of suckers to pony up time and money to keep it, and his mouth, going.
Given real power, instead of being the media's favourite poverty celebrity, would be a disaster for Canada.
