My name is Fred and I am a gay conservative living in Ottawa. This blog supports limited government, the right of the State of Israel to live in peace and security, and tries to expose the threat to us all from cultural relativism, post-modernism, and radical Islam. Good news - gay marriages skyrocket in Canada....

All of this is good news for the institution of marriage....
Canadian gay and lesbian couples headed to the altar in unprecedented numbers in the past five months new statistics show. From the beginning of June through October there was a jump of 23 percent in the number of same-sex couples obtaining marriage licenses over the whole period since same-sex marriage became legal in Canada.

Prior to June 10 just over 10-thousand marriage licenses had been issued to gay and lesbian couples. But over the summer 2,300 couples obtained licenses.

In Ontario some 6,524 same-sex couples have now wed. The summer rush to exchange vows accounted for a 17 percent increase. Quebec saw a 35 percent increase over the five months. But the biggest jump was in Alberta where the numbers increased by 40 percent.
I'm delighted. But, it's time for a vote in the House of Commons and put this issue to rest. Stephen Harper has promised a vote...and he has promised that a vote against re-considering gay marriage will put the issue to an end.

You are not safe yet.

The longer gay marriage is legal, the more rediculous all the stock arguements against it will seem. If it lasts a decade, then it will last a century. But the political faction which opposes it is starting to gain power (Annoyingly, as Canada's politics are almost as polarised as those of the US, the conservative faction). Expect them to make one desperate attempt to overturn it while they still have some chance.

Would you happen to know if these stats represent just Canadian residents or do they also include visitors and tourists?

BTW, I think we can expect a bit more tourism from Israel very soon.
