A multi-millionaire businessman must pay out most of the lavish deal awarded to his former lover and their child, the Appeal Court said yesterday.

Janet Hill had won a "resounding success" when Stephen Morgan, a married man, was ordered by a High Court judge to set up a £700,000 housing trust fund for her and her two children, pay her £60,000 a year maintenance, a £100,000 lump sum to pay off her debts and £25,000 every five years to buy a new car.

Mr Morgan, 53, the founder of the property developer Redrow, had fathered one of 39-year-old Miss Hill's two children. He had taken the case to the court of appeal because he objected to the size of the awards made to Miss Hill.

He had also claimed that he should not have to subsidise the upbringing of her first child by another married man, who is paying her £12,000 a year maintenance.

Miss Hill also receives payments for the children's school fees.

Courts just look at men as walking wallets....
