Confession of a global warming supporter...

Not anymore - David Evans, an advisor to the Australian government has now become a skeptic...
The evidence was good enough: not conclusive, but why wait until we are absolutely certain when we apparently need to act now? So the idea that carbon emissions were causing global warming passed from the scientific community into the political realm, and actions started to happen. . . . The political realm in turn fed money back into the scientific community. By the late 1990's, lots of jobs depended on the idea that carbon emissions caused global warming. Many of them were bureaucratic, but there were a lot of science jobs created too. I was on that gravy train, making a high wage in a science job that would not have existed if we didn't believe carbon emissions caused global warming. And we had political support, the ear of government, big budgets, and we felt fairly important and useful (well, I did anyway). It was great. We were working to save the planet!

"But starting in about 2000, the evidence. . . fell away or reversed.

How could you, or anyone, take this "gentleman" seriously? Australia is going through catastrophic droubts.....No doubt due to global warming.

Climate change denial is a symptom of mental illness, and should be treated accordingly.

Toronto twink..... socialism is a mental illness.... fanatic belief in anthropogenic climate change is a symptom of said illness. Scepticism in science is vital, otherwise it becomes nothing more than superstition at best, religion at worst. That the climate is changing, no one doubts - that it has changed before and will again is scientific fact. That humans are causing it is, to put it mildly, a manifestation of the arrogance the left has always displayed, i.e. a symptom of mental illness.

Son, never come to a gun fight armed with a knife. You don't have the intellect for this flavour of debate.

"Climate change denial is a symptom of mental illness, and should be treated accordingly."

Threatening their jobs, yelling them down, and emotionally tagging their 'denial' to another sort of 'denial' are just a few steps, of course.

Droughts are caused by a lack of rain. The earth is driest when it is in the coldest part of an ice age. That is when more water is locked up in ice. The equator has rain forests. The equator is warm. Warmth is not the cause of arid conditions. Antarctica is arid as well.

The wind is blowing - it must be global warming!

Climate change denial is a sign of both mental illness and intellectual incompetence and arrogance.

I'm proud that the Vancouver Sun will allow the renowned Dr. David Suzuki to control the editorial pages this coming Saturday, May 5th!!!

Climate change denial is worse than hollocaust denial.....It will kill billions of people rather than millions!

TT, I've asked this before, but I'll ask it again. What are your scientific & academic credentials? What are Suzuki's? Both you and he, are naturally entitled to express your views, but they have no more authority or weight than mine or Fred's. They certainly have far less weight than those of David Evans. He was willing to listen to evidence, and change his views. Your mind seems to be so made up that you don't want to take the chance of being confused by evidence or facts. So, you rant, rave, and resort to name calling. Not exactly the conduct of a mature person.

What I have found about a lot of these greenhouse gas proponents is that they won't be happy unless they can wreck the economy or transfer wealth to other parts of the world...global socialism at its finest. What I would really like to know is what "hidden agenda" Suzuki and Gore have in mind. The more studies I read, the more I think that global warming, while occuring, is more from the sun or other natural phenomena than from man. Clean up the environment? Sure, why not, but don't blame warming on unscientifically-proven assertion and political agendas.
