My name is Fred and I am a gay conservative living in Ottawa. This blog supports limited government, the right of the State of Israel to live in peace and security, and tries to expose the threat to us all from cultural relativism, post-modernism, and radical Islam. The coming eco-fascism....

Its' already started...and it's going to be vicious...
But for nuts we don't need to go all the way to Iran. The Green Gestapo of the environment seems ready to launch nuts right here at home. Eco-fascists share the self-righteous arrogance of Islamo-fascists, safety-Nazis and other control freaks. They're like the multicultural censors excising "Merry Christmas!" or the feminist ones neutering the word "fisherman" and substituting "fisher" as the mot juste. They're the anti-gun crusaders obliging us to register Grandpa's squirrel-plonker; they're the Victorian don't-step-on-the-grass crowd; they're our version of the Persian dress police. They're prepared to enforce a government- regulated climate in Canada, indoors and outdoors, literally and figuratively, itching to counter global warming with an economic ice age.

What will it be like? Dark and grim. Hot showers on alternate days. Cars carrying fewer than three passengers impounded. Failure to use the politically correct amount of toilet paper bringing down the full wrath of the eco-fascist state. And harbouring an unlicensed light bulb in the home....

What, pray tell, is wrong with licensing light bulbs, especially the ancient Edison bulbs?

What is wrong with some government regulations to protect the environment, for the betterment of society overall? The economy will not be ruined. At the worst, the economy will go into a severe recession; it will bounce back.

We need the full force of the government, and the United Nations to compel people to change their greedy and politically incorrect abuse of the environment. Though I am not an "ecofascist" or communist, I think that the government should use as much of its executive and legislative powers as possible to enforce the strictist environmental standards as possible...

...I'll even go as far as giving the United Nations Assembly powers to intervene in Canadian jurisdictions to help us see the errors of our ways, and help this planet before it dies.

Also, I would strictly enforce transfer credits from one country to another in order to help balance the effects of our abuse of the environment.

We must think globally and truly act locally.

You may not be a communist or ecofascist but you certainly are a socialist. Would you be content letting the government tell you how big your house can be, how far from work you can live, what kind of car you can drive, how many kids you can have, where you can take vacations, ect. because this is only the tip of the iceberg of what government can do. If the government puts an extra tax on the evil bulbs that one thing. Banning them outright is something different all together.

A large proportion of Americans are, to coin a term, commie-phobic. A leftover from the struggles of the cold war is a cultural attitude that considers all things capitalist to be 'good' by definition, and all things communist or socialist - with no ability to distinguish between the two - bad by nature.

Thus, free markets, always good. Regulation, always bad - start regulating, and the people fear they are starting down the road to communist takeover.

Look at this blog as an example. Anonymous, the previous commenter, addressed the poster before him with a common slippery slope argument: "Regulate lightbulbs and you let the socialists in, and next thing you notice the country will be under communist oppression trying to micromanage our lives."

Suricou Raven uses the us socialists are just misunderstood argument. I won't go into it here but it has been well documented that economic freedom and prosperity go hand in hand. How many Americans are trying to immigrate to Cuba? Secondly socialists just assume the government knows what is best for us and have the peoples interest at heart however there is now a lot of information coming out about the draw backs of the CFL bulbs Mercury, etc. When western governments banned DDT 30 million Africans died of malaria. This record does not exactly fill me with confidence.

Concern for the environment crosses party lines and political/economic ideologies of all directions.

I am not now, nor have I ever been a socialist. Those who are passionate about the environment are not socialists either. We believe that voluntary guidelines don't work. The full force of the legislative and executive powers of government must be used.

...As Al Gore recently said, the Baird environmental plan is a total and absolute fraud. Harper's days are truly numbered.
