Crimes against certain races, homosexuals, the elderly or other specific groups have been on the rise in Norway. Gay men especially have been targets of violence, according to a recent survey conducted by the Justice Ministry for the police directorate.

Storberget told newspaper Aftenposten that he's taking the survey seriously. The survey itself, he said, was a result of concern over an apparent rise in violence against homosexuals.

Now it's been documented that both violence and threats prevail against certain groups, especially young gays. He said police are encouraging victims to reveal motivating factors for the crime, and to press charges when suspects are apprehended.
