Shame on these Canadian soldiers....
Is there a homophobic problem in the Canadian armed forces???
A Dutch court on Tuesday jailed two Canadian soldiers due to be posted to Afghanistan for an assault on a gay man in Amsterdam.Eric Wright was sentenced to five months in jail and ordered to pay EUR 6,000 in damages and Ryan Dowie was given 45 days in jail, a court spokesman told AFP.
The two men, both aged 22 at the time of the incident, were arrested following a brawl in May in which a 28 year-old gay man was hospitalised with serious injuries.

There is no more a homophobic problem in the Canadian Forces as there is in Canadian society at large - and the Canadian Forces aren't immune from having total idiots in their ranks, just like any other profession. Our military is a reflection of our society, as it should be in a democracy. Justice has been done and seen to be done. Rest assured that if military authorities had prosecuted the assault, the sentences would have been even more severe. Compared to the luxury of a civilian prison, military detention is such that the recidivism rate is so low as to be almost nothing. The military ethos in Canada is that we exist to take the bullet for the civilian, not to harm him or her - and we enforce that ethos.
Their really isn't enough of that story to confirm if it was a homophobic attack...or if it was a bar incedent to where the man who got trounced claimed it was because he was gay, It's just one of those things unless caught on tape is hard to say...
The Canadian military personnel were worried about being raped; Having been to Holland as a teenager, I can understand their anxiety....Dutch gays are way too promiscuous, and way too forward....They can't take no for an answer, and are always willing to force themselves on their subjects of lust.
The Canadians should not have been treated like they were. Granted, what they did wasn't right, but the Dutch over-reacted.
Manuel. You are correct. The two soldiers were actually defending themselves against 4 men not 1. The "victim" just got the worst of after he had tried to throw the first punch. And it had nothing to do with anyone being Gay. No "stomping" it was a punch (a punch). Stomping is a translation issue of the word punch from dutch to English. Too bad the press can't do their homework.
I know the guy personally, Eric that is, and I know that he would not fight someone because of his sexuality. Eric wouldn't care about that. The guy provoked Eric to fight, that is the only reason I can see, and now his career and reputation is ruined.
