GayandRight

My name is Fred and I am a gay conservative living in Ottawa. This blog supports limited government, the right of the State of Israel to live in peace and security, and tries to expose the threat to us all from cultural relativism, post-modernism, and radical Islam. I am also the founder of the Free Thinking Film Society in Ottawa (www.freethinkingfilms.com)

Gay Dominion makes some left-leaning bloggers uneasy....

Gee, so far the reaction from Conservatives to Gay Dominion has been terrific. Lots of positive comments on this blog and directly to the Gay Dominion e-mail. Last night, I was on Calgary radio and the hosts were totally supportive. The only people who are unhappy seem to be left-wing bloggers - they just can't understand how a gay person can have conservative thoughts.

For instance, if you go to Dr. Dawg's blog, you'll notice some silly comments - actually comparing me to a jew that would join the KKK. In an e-mail to me, Dr. Dawg says that "surely you have noticed that homophobia is almost exclusively a right-wing phenomenon?" Well, tell that to Fidel Castro who loves to put gay people in prison. Or, the fact that the Liberal party really didn't take on gay rights until they were forced to by the courts. Well, that's another can of worms. My point is that homophobia knows no ideological lines.

If you want a good overview of some of the reaction, check out the Diogenes Borealis blog.

His last line is a killer:
I have never encountered from Conservatives who know I am gay the animosity and vitriol directed at me by gays who find out I'm a Conservative.

Fred it was great talking to you last night. I wish you every success with Gay Dominion. Perhaps we can teach the left the meaning of acceptance and not merely tolerance.

The problem with the left is the narrow minded stereotype that they all seem to subscribe to when ever they hear the term conservative.

They seem to think that we are all ultra right wing religious nuts who are so socially conservative that we blush when using the washroom.

They should be aware that there are a lot of conservative supporters like me that are socially liberal and fiscally conservative, with a more libertarian bent. I would support the liberals, if they were liberals...but they stopped believing in personal freedom a long time ago.

And congratulations and bon chance with your new venture.

I see it as the Liberal mentality, where they think they 'own' groups.
Women, Ethnic, Gay groups were 'used' against the Conservatives.

IMO jim represents a growing majority in the united Conservative party, socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Hey, I'm a religious social conservative, but I welcome you with open arms to the Conservative Party. I may disagree with you about marriage, but I know I have far more in common with you as a person who loves old-fashioned civil rights like freedom of expression. I believe that we can have a robust tolerance that allows people--religious or non--gay or straight--to be themselves, to respect each other's freedom in a respectful, civil way.

I also appreciate that you recognize the various threats to Western Civilization and that a totalitarian secularist response that the Left seems to like is not going to win the day.

So best wishes with your project. I think that you probably already know that a lot said about us religious so-cons is stereotypical
and unfair.

If you don't denounce this sodomite and once, I'm going to ask your priest to deny you communion!

Love, liberal fascist.

Wilson has it right: the "Progressives" think they own groups, and never once consider that these groups are made up of individuals. When an individual makes a choice that is not vetted by the "Progressives", they are in direct conflict with the "Progressive" paradigm, and must be marginalized, cast out or extinguished at all costs.

If you have free speech, then you might also want free will; and that is the one thing they will never allow. Free will and "Progressive idiology" are polar opposites, only one can exist at any time.

It's been said before.. but for anyone wondering about how a gay person could be a conservative.. well, I recommend the book "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg.

He points out that the Nazis didn't start out with an avowed policy of extermination of the Jews.. that was brought in after a slow and effective push to convince the public that the government was doing "what was best for them".

The line between a fascist and a progressive liberal is very narrow - because at the core of the progressive is a notion that their intellectual superiority justifies all.. that the end justifies the means.. and once you go down that slippery slope, no one is truly safe from the "tyranny of the nice".

I truly wish you the best in your endeavor, Fred.

But.. I have admit, I don't advocate "tollerance" of gay persons.. but then again, I don't advocate "tollerance" of people with green eyes either, or people named "Bill", or people who drive Fords.. guess I'm just not as "tollerant" as my fellow Liberal citizens.

Few more years and Toronto gay community might realise that they were taken for a ride by the Liberals and the Court Party of Canada.

Good example: Same Sex Marriage.

Bunch of lawyers and judges had a dinner one night in a restaurant at Osgoode Hall and they were trying to find a new market for their divorce scam. They already saturated heterosexual market when they created precedents of breakup of commonlaw heterosexual relationship as basis of lifelong spousal support.

They looked around and said what about gays and lesbians living togeter how come we cannot rip them off when they split up???

Someone said; before they can divorce they have to be able to legally marry.

This is how Same Sex Marriage idea was born.

If you do not belive me than it was a scam cooked up at Osgoode Hall check this article: "Court approves first gay divorce"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3660792.stm

Divorce after five days of cohabitation and one year separation? They could have had their marriage nullified in few weeks.

Jim, your first sentence is bang on. I'd go even further though. They have deliberately constructed this lie to keep the conservative movement from having a voice and a role in our political life. The more we on the right side of the aisle break free from this externally imposed gag order, the more hysterical they get.

And Fred!! You go, guy!!!

I fully support the idea of "Gay Dominion". I'm straight and married and my two of my best friends are gay.

I have no problem with gay marriage and actually support it. I'm pretty far to the right, mainly from an economic standpoint. I don't buy into the moral/religious aspects of the right (I'm atheist) but I find that to be a more promient voting bloc in the US.

I think the problem you are having and will have with the left is that you're trying to un-victimize gays while they try to hold you down and continue to be victims.

Keep up the fight. You have my support whether you want it or not.

What I find amusing about your post and the comments proceeding it; is the obvious disdain you appear to have for identity politics, while wallowing in victim hood--poor downtrodden homocons can't catch a break.

I personally see it as drawing a line in the sand and asking whether you're with the people who fought for your equality, or with the people who fought against it?

I disagree Paul. The CPC allowed a free vote in the House, which to me means more than the whipped vote the LPC had. MPs on both sides of the floor went either way, so it is unfair and stereotypical of you to make such a statement, and it is simply incorrect.

The current liberal movement is about mandated government equality of groups that they can use. The conservative movement is about personal freedoms in as many facets of your day to day life, regardless of what stereotyped group you belong to.

I wish the Dominion every great success!

Gay/conservative is an oxymoron....
...Unless you are "conservatives" who vote Democrat, you vote for a GOP who's official platform-plank on homosexuality is that it is a curable mental illness.
The Christian conservative Republican base takes an even dimmer view of you than that. They think you're criminal perverts and poisonous plague on humanity.

How you can be in political partnership with such people who consider you an abomination and/or mentally sick defies the imagination of any rational thinking person.

Do you share their views on Asians, Blacks, Jews, non-Whites, immigrants etc.?

It makes me doubt the soundness of your feelings and opinions on all the other issues.

'Gay Dominion'? Honestly Fred, you should have picked a better name, cause it reminds people too much of that black hole called Free Dominion.
Being bisexual myself, I'm quite supportive of gay friendly libertarian conservatives, such as Barry Goldwater. It's unfortunate that the religious right hijacked the conservative movement here in North America.
