An illegal immigrant trying to sneak into Britain was found dead on railway tracks yesterday, just hours after another man was killed in a gang battle outside Paris.

An 18-year-old man was stabbed to death in a gang-war between illegal immigrants near the Eurostar terminal following fierce fighting.

Just hours later and the badly mutilated body of a man in his 30s was found slumped on the rail tracks about five miles from the French entrance to the 31-mile long tunnel.

Police believe he had either tried to get through the tunnel on foot, or had hidden himself aboard a train and then fallen from it.

A police spokesman said: 'The body was badly injured, which suggests he may have fallen from a fast-moving train, or was possibly hit by a train while travelling down the tunnel on foot.

'Trains travel at up to 100mph in the tunnel and any attempt to enter it illegally, on foot or otherwise, is extremely perilous.'

The body was found by maintenance workers yesterday and had now been moved to a mortuary in France.

Meanwhile police said two men were facing murder charges following the murder of the young Afghan man.

He was knifed in the throat in a pitched battle between feuding refugees desperate to sneak aboard lorries and trains to Britain.

The violence erupted yesterday in a run-down district of the French capital dubbed 'little Kabul' behind the Gare du Nord train station, with regular rail services to London.

He was one of hundreds of young men staying in the refugee centre two miles from the Eurostar station in the French capital.

His alleged attackers – aged 27 and 17 and also from Afghanistan– suffered minor cuts in the brawl.

Both are in custody, with French police expected to charge both with murder ‘imminently’.

All were registered at the sprawling refugee transit centre which offers beds, showers and advice on asylum seeking.

A Paris police spokesman said: ‘A large gang of young men were arguing about routes into Britain, as they seem to do every day of the week.

‘A violent brawl started, with metal bars and knives being used as weapons.
