Don't Be Fooled by Mideast "Ceasefire"

Last week, 13 Palestinian factions (including terrorist groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad) agreed on a temporary period of 'calm' in the middle east. PA President Abbas was ecstatic with the unity!

I think we should all be a bit skeptical. The roadmap calls for the Palestinians to disarm the terrorist groups, and that is just not happening. Abbas has not taken one step to disarm anybody. In fact, the IDF Chief of Staff is warning that the terorists are using this period of calm to regroup and rearm.

What's more discouraging is that we are getting far less than a ceasefire.

"Hisham Abdel Rezak, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, said today that the arrangement agreed upon in Cairo is a dahadiye, the Arabic word for a status less than a hudna. A hudna is a ceasefire that remains in effect until one of the sides feels that it can defeat the other. Rezak said that the present arrangement is even less binding than that, and is really only a "calming" of the situation.

Hamas official Muhammed Nazzal said that even this limited agreement will expire at the end of the year unless Israel meets Palestinian demands in full, including release of all terrorists, withdrawal from all Arab-populated cities in Judea and Samaria, and an end to all military activities, including pursuit of terrorists."
Of course, Israel is not going to release ANY prisoners with blood on their hands (nor should they). So, is Israel being set up? And, when violence resumes, it will be Israel's fault, right?
