How's this for false allegation?
Here's a short piece from the CanWest news service that caught my eye today.
The Supreme Court of Canada has ended the litigation of a woman who falsely accused her ex-husband of a gay affair, physical abuse and hding their matrimonial assets. The court refused yesterday to hear an appeal by Louise Hockey-Sweeney from last year's Ontario Court of Appeal order that her ex-husband, Lawrence Sweeney, resume paying the homemaker, who is unable to work, $5,000 per month in spousal support. In 2002, an Ontario divorce court slapped Ms. Hockey-Sweeney, 50, with a punitive order requiring her to pay $200,000 of the more than $500,000 in legal costs she forced Mr. Sweeney, 49, to run up to defend himself in an arduous, unnecessary divorce trial. The trial judge found Mr. Sweeney had made a generous offer to settle the case out of court. Describing Ms. Hockey-Sweeney as "unstable" and "vengeful," and Mr. Sweeney as displaying "infinite patience," Superior Court Justice Peter Hambly said in his trial judgement that Ms. Hockey-Sweeney's "outrageous" behavior was motivated by anger. She deliberately made false allegations in court that her husband physically abused her, hid his assets and had an affair with a man about whom she was obsessed.Wow, what a horrible story. I wonder why she only has to pay 40% of his legal bills??? And, she she actually thought that $5,000 per month in support wasn't adequate?
