Want to get away with murder?
Well, just come to Toronto.
Linda Wagman has been found not criminally responsible for stabbing a Kitchener man to death in 1997 due to a longstanding mental illness. So, instead of prison, she gets sent to a hospital...
Yesterday, the Ontario Court of Appeal in Toronto quashed Wagman's guilty conviction for second-degree murder and substituted the new finding.
A jury had found Wagman guilty of stabbing Vincent Kraehling to death after a heated fight in the Kitchener apartment they shared on Nov. 11, 1997.
Wagman dismembered his body and buried his torso near a community trail in Kitchener. It was found four months later. The other body parts, including his head, were never found.
Wagman will undergo annual reviews by the Ontario Review Board, a board that examines the status of people who have been found not criminally responsible because of a mental disorder. How ridiculous...she should be getting psychiatric treatment while she sits in a jail cell.
In a hospital, Wagman will have social workers and therapists who could develop a plan to ultimately release her gradually to a supervised group home, Gehl said.
