Politically-Correct Names
Gee, when you're obsessed with skin colour, you can really start to go crazy. Here's what's happening in the UK with the police...
Met Police officers have been told not to use three terms – “ethnic minority”, “black and ethnic minority” and “visible ethnic minority” – so as not to cause “offence and distress”.
Instead, Met staff have been told the phrase “black and minority ethnic communities/people” is the appropriate terminology to use when describing staff, people and communities.
The Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) ordered the change following a report by its Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board (EODB).
The National Black Police Association today described the switch as a “waste of time and money”, but Scotland Yard and the MPA insisted the change had no cost implications.
