Gender-based pricing bill is back...
Unfortunately, legislation to ban so-called discriminatory pricing based on gender is back. MPP Lorenzo Berardinetti re-introduced his private member's bill last week in the Ontario Legislature.
The people behind this bill believe that women are being gouged when they buy a variety of goods and services (like hairdressing, dry cleaning), and want women to be charge the same as men. But, do they also really want women to pay the same high car insurance rates?
If something like this ever passed, I am sure that hairdressers could just charge by the hour - giving men and women the same rate - but women will still pay more for hairdressing.
An embarassingly stupid bill.

Yup, I'm a woman and agree that this is dumb. Similar to pay equity (another farce), differences in prices and wages are not the result of discrimination, but other factors, which are beyond gov't control.
The funniest part of this story is that Berardinetti first cottoned on to the differences when he was looking at a $1,200 Armani suit and his wife was looking at a $2,000 Armani suit.
Why is an MPP shopping for Armani suits?
Considering the dislike I have for those overly quaffed and long haired guys out there, I say charge by the hour. Why should only women suffer for their long hair?
Nice blog, congratulations.
