It's time to support Israel...

I find it very hard watching the news these days. What the broadcasters seem to forget is that Israel tries very hard to avoid civilian casualties, while Hezbollah or Hamas tries to maximize civilian casualties. Both of them place their rockets within cvilian populations, thus ensuring that Israel will kill innocent people while trying to target just the rockets.

By the way, if you have time, please call the Prime Minister's office and tell him that you appreciate his comments in support of Israel.

ahmedinajad, I am not sure I understand your point, what is it?

It is common knowledge the links between the different faiths and also that Islam is the fastest growing faith in the world today.

If you are suggesting that radical Islam movements should just be accepted than you are wrong and the majority of the world disagrees with you.

It's asymmetric warfare so naturally one side is going to try and maximize civilian casualties. Both sides are asshats and wrong-headed. Hamas cannot expect to live beside someone and deny that they should exist; Israel is hardly innocent in taking umpteen lives to get back one soldier, especially after conducting assassination and kidnapping raids themselves. There is no right side in this, so get over it.

I am standing up for Israel. Proud that Harper is too.

Yesterday I would have agreed with you completely, today I am not nearly as sure about it.

For a group that "tries very hard" to minimize civilian casualties, they sure are killing an awful lot of civilians. Maybe its just that they are killing Canadians now that I am looking at where I stand in this a little closer, but they have the best military hardware in the world, why are the vast majority of the people being killed civilians?

Yes, as a democracy Canada should also stand up for another democracy, such as the State of Israel, and its right to constantly defend itself.

But, what about the Israeli incursion into sovereign Lebanese territory? What about the killings of the eight Canadian citizens today, by the IDF? Remember, I am strongly pro-Israel, but the Israelis should also show signs of restraint.

There is a Toronto area Liberal MP, Dan McTeague, that I have to agree with.....Peter Mackay dropped the ball today regarding Canadians in this hotzone. Mackay was very much off guard, and that is scary.

Ahmedinajad. Nice name. Is that Persian for "Adolf"?

Your religion is a virus. That's why it keeps spreading.

As for Israel's need for "restraint", imagine how restrained y'all would expect Canada to be if the US was lobbing missiles into the suburbs of Winnipeg?

I can appreciate your point of view Joel K, however if Hezbollah just killed 8 Canadians, you would be outraged beyond belief.

You dont pull the trigger on any weapon unless you are sure that what you are shooting at is your target, and I do not know how a Canadian family ever became a potential target or could become a target by anyone going far out of their way to ensure no civiliand casualties.

I have been scanning news sources in Israel looking for anything even remotely close to an apology, and there is not a single mention that this even happened. Collateral damage not even worthy of a passing mention. These are people considered our friends and allies?

The Canadians there that want to leave have no way out. How is their safety going to dealt with. It seems that MacKay is going above and beyond trying to ensure their safety by any means necessary, but they still have to get through a naval blockade to be able to rescue the rest of the Canadians stranded in Lebanon.

I feel for the plight is Israel in this, but I am having trouble trying to figure what could have possibly happened, and why those responsible have been so silent.

I dont think the 6 Canadian Nationals killed today would agree with your statement on who kills Civilians nor the 9 members of 1 family. So get a grip .

The truth about the "Alleged" killing of Canadians in Lebanon
keeps being modified by the hour, the recent report confirms that these were Lebanese with dual-Citizenship ,and if you understand our system you'll know it only takes 3 years to get that Canadian Passport to globe trot for vacations .

Where was the outrage by Liberals when 24 Canadians were slaughtered in NY on 9/11 by self-professed Muslims , and where were Liberals on the Air India slaughter of almost 250 Canadians by Sikh terrorists right here in canada.

The Liberals bought Bob Rae to review the Air India case and rule it pointless to have an Inquiry, and the BC NDP Sikh witness against the Terroists was beaten up and now sits with the FederaL Liberals that hired Rae and now bought him to run as Leader.

BTW, Ahmed is pulling a gag on you because I'm familiar with the websites he referenced and they only confirm the darkside of Islam and Muhammads Misogynistic and pedophilia practises.

Check out this site for the real scoup on Jihadists and Muhammads call to murder the unbelievers.

Israel is surrounded by fascists, the West is a fickle friend usually so let's hope Israel can survive and prove that there is a slight chance for some people to achieve freedom in the Middle East - even if a large majority of Muslims support their savage dictators, someday they may want something better than violence and death for their children too.

GayandRight: I totally agree with your post. And wow, what a collection of comments you are gathering. I'd like to respond to a few of your commenters:

First of all, "nrw"...the reason that there are civilian casualties is because Hizbollah targets are mixed in with the civilian population. Hizbollah does this purposefully...terrorists always use human shields to protect themselves. As "Joel K." said, the Israelis dropped hundreds of thousands of pamphlets to the citizens in Lebanon warning them to get away from any known Hizbollah building or structure.

"Anonymous" made the excellent point saying "Where was the outrage by Liberals when 24 Canadians were slaughtered in NY on 9/11 by self-professed Muslims.." Exactly. Why all this outrage now about these Lebanese/Canadian casualties? Obviously it is a tragedy when civilians get killed or hurt in conflicts, but this is no xbox game...this is the real thing. And Israel has every right in the world to protect itself. Perhaps, if the Lebanese gov't doesn't want any more bombing in Beirut they should join in with Israel to help wipe the savage and murdering Hizbollah and Hamas off the face of the earth forever.

Terrorism, specifically fanatical Islamism, is a horrendous and real threat to the world, not just Israel. If the Israelis don't deal once and for all with this problem now, God help them all in the future.

If you are someone who wishes that Israel would back off now, then I can only assume you are prepared to see, or want to see, the eventual destruction and annihilation of Israel itself.

It's imparative that we support the State of Israel, a true democracy in the largely undemocratic Mid-East; but we shouldn't do so at any and all cost!

My concern is for all of the Canadians in the region, regardless of how many of them are dual citizens. Being of the centre-right, and a CPC supporter, I feel that Mackay and Harper let Canadians down by their over-simplistic endorsement of the State of Israel. The Harper government also is letting Canadians down by not doing enough to pressure the Israelis, Hamas, and Hezbolah to end the crisis.

Yes, we should support the State of Israel, but we shouldn't support Israeli attacks on sovereign Lebanese territory, especially when so many innocent civilians are being killed (martyred in the eyes of Hamas/Hezbolah)....We should'nt give Israel a free ride especially when Canadian citizens are killed while waiting for their home government to rescue them, which doesn't seem to be happening quick enough.

Remember the Tsunami in the South Asia region on Boxing Day, 2004? It was Opposition leader Harper who criticized the then new PM Martin that his government wasn't doing enough to rescue trapped Canadians! Well, where is Harper on this issue?
