Louise Arbour still doesn't get it...

No, Louise, Canada was right not to applaud your term - you showed no coherent view of human rights, except to go after Israel at every opportunity...
Louise Arbour could scarcely believe her ears.

Having just announced that she would not seek a new term as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Arbour listened as ambassadors from one country after another rose at a March, 2008, meeting in Geneva of the UN Human Rights Council to heap praise upon her and express regrets that she would be leaving.

Every country except her own, that is. In stark contrast, Canada's ambassador launched straight into a policy statement without making any reference to her decision.

“Frankly, it was pretty bizarre and startling,” Ms. Arbour, 62, recalled in a wide-ranging interview. “Everybody was taken aback. People I knew well expressed utter shock and utter surprise. You see, everybody says nice things on these type of occasions. You don't have to mean them, you just have to say them. In that context, it really stood out.”

Adding to the sting, Treasury Board president Vic Toews, the former justice minister, told the House of Commons several weeks later that Ms. Arbour had been “a disgrace” for comments she made during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon war that were perceived in some quarters as being anti-Israeli.
She's now hurt and upset - let's hope she doesn't go to the Human Rights Commission...

Kudos to the Canadian Ambassador!

Perhaps a 'legal scholar' such as herself might not understand this - but words do have meaning!

What an imbecile.

I gather even the Liberals didn't stay to hear her speech at the Liberal convention.

Say what you want, regardless of whether or not you believe it, because it's what people want to hear.

Good on the Canadian Ambassador. Perhaps this posturing bimbo will get the message that not everyone appreciated her arrogant, haughty demeanor when she issued pronouncements from her U.N. headquarters as if they were edicts from on high. With her curling lip, and regal head-toss she passed judgment on entire nations as if they were mere subjects to bow to her every demand.
