GayandRight to Toronto Pride: Stop Whining....

Why on earth does Toronto Pride need funding from the Canadian Government? Barbara hits the right note here...
Last year Pride Toronto received $397,500 from the federal government's Marquee Festival and Events Program (MFEP) in its first year. MFEP's decision to withdraw funding of Pride Toronto this year was naturally an unhappy surprise to the festival's organizers.

Executive Director Tracey Sandilands' conclusion was that "queer events are not worthy of government investment," and, as she stupidly commented to the CBC, "It certainly seems that there are [homophobic] elements in the government."

That kind of kneejerk blackmail thankfully doesn't work with this government, which was right to rethink its endorsement of the event. The government should not be funding any particular group's parochial pride, whether it is pride in its sexual identity, or linguistic, national or cultural identity. As we have seen with the Sikh parades out West, the benign and celebratory aspects of a parade in its developing phase can eventually attract pernicious parasitic elements that provoke virulent and even dangerous intra-group passions on the taxpayer's dime.

Case in point: Queers Against Israeli Apartheid (QAIA). Pride Toronto did its image no favours by havering over the right of QAIA to profit by the parade infrastructure and resources to create a toxic atmosphere in the last several years.

Under pressure from voluble anti-QAIA city councillors, taxpayers' associations and activist Jewish gays rightfully offended and discomfited by QAIA's hateful messaging, Toronto may cut its funding to Pride - we'll know in a few days - and it's unclear whether the Ontario provincial government will contribute the same $350,000 this year that they gave in 2009. Apparently several sponsors already have quietly dropped their endorsement over the QAIA issue, as the Pride Toronto website as of May 9 shows only two corporate sponsors, TD Bank and Labatt Breweries. Proctor and Gamble and Pepsi Cola were there a month ago, but seem to have decamped, along with others.

Who should the MFEP fund, if anyone? If Ottawa is to persist in the questionable practice of using tax money to choose winners and losers among the thousands of arts events on offer, it should focus on those that appeal to interests in which all Canadians feel welcome and engaged. The Montreal Jazz Festival and the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival will receive $3 million each this year, as they have in past years. They create massive tourism, they are unpoliticized and they unify their populations in positive, peaceful ways. The federal government should fund arts, sports and culture, not "queer arts," "Jewish sports," "black music," or "Ukrainian pride."

Pride has morphed into a public display of contempt for "Breeders" which is code for Heterosexual non-Liberal/Non-Elite's in Toronto.
I also have a serious issue with my Taxes funding an event where naked males can now legally expose thmeselves to children as the Police and Mayor allow it. A Judge ruled in favour of this Quasi-Child Abuse because wearing Shoes negated any Charge of being naked.
This loop-hole allows heterosexual pedophiles to sneak in the Parade to get their jollies in front of kids while naked, but remember that Judge's had once allowed Slavery and defended it as Legal.

Selective Laws for Child-abuse definitions are used one Day a year for a special group, this is insulting to infer that there are no Homosexual-pedophiles on Earth and thus....the Nudity by males in Pride can break the Laws from their Sexual preference choice in the Charter Of Right.

I will NEVER agree to the new PC mind set by Miller and Kyle Rae that deem this Nudity in front of kids as not harmful, plus if it's illegal for me to take my child into a Pealer bar to see naked adults with only shoes on, THEN any parent bringing their child to the Pride parade is just as guilty of exposing them to Naked adults with only shoes on.
I now see why UNICEF.ca failed to give Toronto the Global Status of a Child-Friendly City as they did to 3 other Canadian cities.

The Homophobe label doesn't work anymore, and if Jew-hating gay muslims enter a Float to bash Israel it's fine with me if the Parade is all private money.
The gay muslim NDPer that endorse this Float on a Radio show refused to admit to the murdering of gays by Hamas and many Islamic States
that even behead people.
How ironic that Muhammad himself had a child-bride while in his 50's which is pedophilia in Canada and illegal, but Gay Muslims will bash Israel in Toronto while their Prophet and Islamic brothers have sin on their hands for killing Gays and marrying children.

And folks say the Evangelical sub-culture isn't on the rise.

I have issues with my tax dollars paying for such evangelical projects like Youth For Christ. Why should they get funding anymore than Gay Pride?

For one thing, ck, they don't promote nudity and anti-moralism. And YFC actually do some good in the world.

The fact that you even had to ask this question is more disturbing than the question itself.

Ridiculous. Why on earth are so-cons so convinced that sexuality and morality are so intertwined? I really don't see the nexus whatsoever. The only sex acts I see as having any moral content whatsoever is non-consensual sex (rape, and abuse of children who don't have the faculties to give consent) and to a lesser extent adultery (which is an act of betrayal of your partner). Homosexuality, pre-marital sex, swinging, orgies, S&M, etc. etc. are completely amoral activities.

A lot of Canadians have problems with funding special interest groups and a lot have trouble with taxpayers paying for the lewdness that is an inherent part of the Gay parade. I actually think they should disallow the nudity in a public place. Worse -- expecting taxpayers who are offended to pay for it.

Yes. When enjoyed in the privacy of your own home and not flaunted in front of children on the street, they are definitely acceptable.

Don't these events have organizers who can shake down the businesses that will be more than happy to pay because they will supposedly reap huge benefits? Why do we all have to pay for this stuff when it doesn't add anything to our lives? Caribana should pay for itself too.

The date, time and location of the parade are well known. If kids are seeing it it is because of bad parenting. Kind of like taking your kids to Daytona Beach on spring break.

Of course you don't. And you probably never will.

That is why liberalism will ultimately fail.

Of course I don't. No one has ever articulated a good reason why they are connected. The best anyone can come up with is that 'its the way its always been'. Murder, violence, rape, theft, fraud... those are things with moral implications. Sex? Not so much.

Sex is also a moral issue. Foe one thing, it's discussed in the Bible and is part of the Ten Commandments.

What has sexual liberation given us besides unwanted preganancies, abortion, AIDS, and STD's? Nothing but problems.

The Bible? You mean that book that is thousands years old, whose authorship and divinity has never been proven to a level to support the extraordinary claims it makes? That Bible? Hardly a valid source for all of us who think its a bunch of hooey.

Nothing but problems.

Fun. Lots and lots of fun. Thats a good enough reason.

KC, if that's what you really think of the Bible, then you know not of what you speak. Greater minds than yours or mine have questioned its validity and authorship over the centuries and most have come away believers. Those who did not come to believe deliberately chose not to in spite of the evidence.

You think sex is nothing but fun? Doesn't sound very responsible.

Nonsense. Contemporary scholars--the only ones uninhibited by the fact that you would be burnt at the stake for questioning the bible--have poked numerous holes in its claim to divinity. I suspect that you have never actually studied the question and were simply brainwashed as a child to accept it uncritically.

You think sex is nothing but fun? Doesn't sound very responsible.

I never said it was "nothing but fun". Don't miquote me. What I said it was "fun", and thus you would need a pretty damn good reason to restrict it. "Good reason" not including the ramblings of an unsubstantiated millenia old book that claims to be the word of god but yet no objective evidence has ever been adduced as to its divinity.

KC, no one has definitively poked holes into the Bible. Why don't you research it it yourself and see what you come up with? I could be wrong, but I think author C.S. Lewis was as skeptical as you are.

"Fun. Lots and lots of fun. "

I won't misquote you if you be more precise. And sex isn't the be-all in this world as much you as you liberals would like it to be.

I'm just sad that you reject God's Word so cavalierly. All for the pleasures of this world...sigh.

Yes, but the issue here is still what deserves to be funded with our tax dollars. The answer in this case would be "whatever the greatest number of people can enjoy", and since there are more good parents than bad ones this would mean that family events should take precedence over adult-themed events.
