Hoping for warmer weather....
A 6-kilometre ice jam??? Is this normal??
Two ice experts are in Prince George, B.C. to assess the six-kilometre-long ice clog at the meeting of the Fraser and Nechako rivers.
The ice jam forced the Nechako over its banks yesterday, setting off a state of local emergency.
About 50 residences and a dozen businesses in the area are on evacuation order.
Wire-mesh dikes have been set up about 2.7 kilometres along the river to keep the water in place.
Firefighters from the Ministry of Forests and inmates from the Prince George jail are helping with sandbagging.
Officials are hoping forecasted warmer weather will help break up the ice.
