One reason why I like Stephen Harper....
What this ex-diplomat doesn't understand is that Canada votes against these types of resolutions because they are not fair....
Canada voted on the side of Israel at the United Nations Thursday, demonstrating a marked shift in Middle East policy.Heinbecker, of course, would much rather support the terrorists wherever possible...he says he's for fairness, but who really believes the UN generates fair resolutions on the middle east. Harper isn't pro-Israel - he's anti-terrorist.
Canada registered its third change in a row on more than 20 Arab- and Muslim-sponsored resolutions that are annually critical of Israeli policy, but light on Arab responsibilities.
That’s a marked switch from the way former Liberal governments voted.
The trend is expected to continue when Canadian diplomats join those of other UN member states to consider 10 more of the annual resolutions next Tuesday.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said in successive speeches his government would not endorse international resolutions on Arab-Israeli relations it considers unbalanced.
“If this is a shift, and if the resolutions are largely unchanged from previous years, then it will have implications for our reputation around the world, and echoes in Canada as well,” warned Paul Heinbecker, a former Canadian ambassador to the UN under the Liberals.
“Canada is known for taking a fair-minded and principled approach to these questions, and when I was ambassador, Canada judged every resolution on its merits, taking into account the central issue they are trying to address, and the question of fairness.”

You have yet to prove the Israeli government is anything but "better-funded terrorists".
Who really cares what EX anyone has to say? Why is the media always calling on ex-this and ex-that for their opinions, they don't matter anymore, maybe they should try quoting, the actual people in power now. Oops, they can't do that, they aren't the Liberals anymore.
Conservatives are proving to be the gold standard when it comes to fairness and upholding human rights, so many others are willing to trade away human dignity in order to score cheap political points.
A mutual enemy does not make an ally. My middle-east standards, Israel is certinly an admirable country, but that does not mean its flaws should be completly ignored.
Harper loves to shoot his mouth off before thinking. Examples include his condemnation of the Peoples' Republic of China which could hurt Canadian trade and diplomatic relations with that country.
Why? Why does Harper have to play the fool and condemn everyone who doesn't agree with his hidden agenda?
Hidden agenda? Gee, Harper has the guts to stand up for human rights in China and you're upset???? What hidden agenda does that fit into?
Harper's hidden agenda is purely homophobia. He's also anti-environmental protection, anti-choice when it comes to abortion, and he's opposed to anyone who doesn't fit in with his narrow point of view on any given issue.
The time is ripe that the Liberals come back to power, regardless of who wins the leadership.....though personally I'm in favour of two of Ontario's favourite sons: Bob Rae and Gerard Kennedy.
I'm completely puzzled why a gay man supports Harper's version of Fascism?
Hey, tt in vc, why would you want gays to be poodles of the Liberal Party of Toronto? You enjoy patronizing condescension?
Minority groups are far better off when Conservatives are in power because the Conservatives treat people fairly while respecting Canadian values.
Liberals divide and conquer between minority groups, if your group can't do enough for the good of the Party - screw you.
